The South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy’s Certification and Compliance Section enforces the South Carolina Law Enforcement Training Act and Regulations which includes; issuance of law enforcement certification, employment tracking, and ensuring ongoing certification renewal for South Carolina officers. This unit tracks all law enforcement mandated training, decertification, training reviews for previously certified officers and certifies basic students applying for educational assistance through the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Employment Tracking Unit
This unit is responsible for: the renewal and expiration of basic certifications for South Carolina officers; tracking and monitoring the employment history (hires/separations) for 16,000 plus South Carolina officers; updating officer records with Mandatory Retraining Notifications (MRNs); issuing certification letters to all law enforcement agencies hiring new officers; follow-up/requesting separations on officers leaving agency and processing military extensions on certified officers called to active military duty.

Certification Services
This unit is responsible for: the processing of official student transcripts for college credit; document collection; initiation of training reviews for previously certified officers; assisting veterans with enrollment into the VA (Education) Benefits Program while attending the Academy; processing subpoenas for court and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) records request; and researching and processing pre-employment training review requests from law enforcement agencies hiring previously certified officers. This unit also tracks the training progress; updates officer records; issues initial certification upon successful completion of basic training; works closely with the Standards Section to ensure that certification policies and guidelines are met for reserve; and interprets and applies the South Carolina Training Act and Regulations including Academy policies governing South Carolina certified officers.
